BIRSHTEIN MAX AVADIEVICH (1914, KIEV - 2000, TARUSA).
Studied at the Surikov Moscow State Art Institute (1935-1942) under I.E. Grabar, G. Shegal, D. Mochalsky. Experienced the influence of R. R. Falk. Participant of exhibitions since 1939. Author of portraits, landscapes, still lifes, genre scenes from the life of the Russian North in the 1950s - 1960s (in 1945-1954 traveled to the White and Barents Seas, Northern Dvina, Malozemelskaya tundra, Novaya Zemlya). In 1972 he was awarded the prize of the All-Union competition of the Union of Artists of the USSR "My contemporary". In 1975 and 1978 he received diplomas of the Moscow Union of Artists "For the best work of the year". In 1999 he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts. In 1968 he participated in exhibitions of Soviet artists in Poland, Romania, England, Holland, Spain, Senegal, France, USA, FRG and Japan. In 1982 he had a solo exhibition in West Berlin, in 1984. - in Moscow, in 1995. - participated in the Sotheby's exhibition. In 1995 a retrospective solo exhibition "The World of the Artist" was held (Central House of Artists, Moscow). Works of the artist are kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery, GRM and in many private collections.
